Physicist, Author, and Director of the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Engagement at Dartmouth

MG is a world-renowned physicist and author, the Appleton Professor of Natural Philosophy and professor of physics and astronomy at Dartmouth, and recipient of the 2019 Templeton Prize. He is the author of hundreds of technical and nontechnical papers and essays, and of five books in English, the latest being The Simple Beauty of the Unexpected. His popular writings explore the historical and philosophical roots of scientific thought, making modern science accessible to the general reader. Marcelo is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a recipient of the Presidential Faculty Fellows Award from the White House, and director of the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Engagement at Dartmouth. He is the co-founder and contributor of NPR’s 13.7 Science and Culture blog, which ran for seven years, and now writes weekly for the online Orbiter Magazine.
